this is a very good read. Very well researched for murders both resolved and unresolved. Paints a vivid picture of the Highlands.

The book is a fascinating journey through the psychology of these killers. Meticulous research reveals the circumstances and the history of each case in remarkable detail.

McLennan writes about horrific happenings but her style is gripping without being either dramatising or thrill-seeking. The beauty and peace of the settings highlight the awful reality of murder and the book is written with great compassion for the loved-ones of the victims.

The book is a rich insight into the mind-set of murder.

Jean is a lawyer and, as such, you would expect her to have her facts right.

You might also expect her to write in a dry, unexciting fashion but this book is anything but tedious. In fact, it is absorbing and you arrive at the end page far too soon.

As her former law partner, you might expect me to say nice things about her but that was never our relationship. We were always cuttingly honest with each other and I see no reason to change that now that she has changed her profession.

I agree with the reviewer, Katarina, who says that this book is well researched. I would have expected nothing else. However, what stands out is that the Jean has shown us the the human face of murder. These are ghastly happenings and are perpetrated by and affect individuals. This is not a recitation of lifeless facts but a vivid and fascinating account of wrongdoing and it's consequences.

I highly recommend it. Do not, however, let it put you off coming to explore this beautiful part of the United Kingdom! Crime is a rarity in this area.

I look forward to the next book.

I was the investigating officer in the case(s) of the "Casanova Killer". I had many questions and e-mails from Jean McLellan all of which I answered and gave her full details including some notes from lectures I gave to Senior Detectives at the Police Staff College about lessons learned from these cases about dealing with cross border murders by the same person. I got a free copy of the book which I thought was well written and know was well researched. I was also pleased to see Jean felt free to " put the boot in" where she thought necessary. After 30 odd years of crime investigation nothing suprises me but I am intrigued that the Bank Manager Murder at Nairn has never been solved and I would be love to cold case review it. Get the book and read it-I am sure you will enjoy it.

Just buy the book and read it. I could not put it down. Fascinated and absorbed the whole way through. Makes you ask, do you really know the people you live next to, and thank goodness for observant members of the public. I vote for more police.
